Writing Techniques that Get You Noticed

The content that you are posting is top-notch and you are proud of how you were able to communicate what you wanted to say and to convey the concepts in such a compelling, valuable manner. You know that your content not only says all of the right things but that it conveys those things in a way that is amazing. You have no doubt that your content will be read and revered by many. Or not! If it isn’t, you can turn that situation around. There are several techniques to help you to do just that.

Getting other people to pay attention to what you are posting

Although your writing may have all of the right elements, the way that you are saying what you are saying may just be missing the mark without you realizing it. If your content is not persuading your target audience members to read your content all of the way through and then do whatever you want them to do (through your call-to-action), you will need to rethink how you are communicating through your writing. You need to write something that really grabs their attention.

However, don’t get discouraged or lose hope. There are indeed ways to draw the attention of your target audience and once you start using those techniques, you will wonder how you ever did without them.

  • Connect with your target audience on an emotional/human level: It is really important to keep in mind that you are sharing your story every time you write content. That means that you are trying to connect your story to the story (or experience) of the person who is reading your content. Your story must resonate with the other person. If they can’t feel what you are sharing, they won’t stick with you because (in their mind) they will have no reason to stick with you.

When it comes to an emotional connection, both positive and negative experiences work well; however, negative experiences are even more effective and compelling than positive ones. Those other people can commiserate with you. You want to send the message to the other person that you empathize with what they have gone through. That empathy will cause a special bond to be formed between you and it is extremely powerful and enduring.

  • Stick to the truth: As much as an emotional bond is critical to your success with the other person, the truth and the facts that make up that truth are just as critical. One thing that is really important to consider is the analytical part. You have to understand the actual results that occur from your efforts and you need to understand that other people think in the same way. It is important that you embrace the idea that the emotional side and the objective/analytical side must work together to ensure your ultimate success.

Your ultimate goal (and this is true of all business people) is to get the other person to buy what you are selling. In order to do that, it won’t be enough for you to connect with the other person on an emotional level alone. You much also prove to them that your products and/or services are worth spending their hard-earned money on.

  • Make your content shareable: Social proof is an extremely powerful thing and it is also really necessary in this day and age. When it comes to sharing content online, many people are much more willing to consider a piece of content as valuable if they see that other people consider it valuable. The bottom line is that people need validation and one of the best ways to get that is to see that a decision that they have either made already or are considering making is something that other people agree with. Those other people are generally people who they respect and with whom they sympathize or empathize. In fact, the greater the number of people, the stronger the validation.

  • Make your content compelling: When it comes to writing, each person has his or her own “voice.” If you have not found your voice yet, you will. You will want to write with an emotional tone and you will see how people react to what you are saying and how you are saying it. The truth is that writing gives you tremendous potential for creativity. You can say the same thing in many different ways and the reaction of the person reading the content will be different depending on how you choose to express yourself.

  • Make your hook clear and apparent from the beginning: Your teaser (opening) paragraph must really grab your readers. You only have three seconds in which to grab their attention. Three seconds is certainly not a lot of time so make sure that you make the most of it. There are several approaches that you can take, such as posing a question or making a strong, thought-provoking statement. Each one is equally powerful in its own way, depending on your target audience and your topic(s).

  • Make the reader understand your uniqueness: You definitely have a unique selling proposition. You just need to make sure that you communicate what that is in the most compelling way possible. You need to convey to your target audience members not only that they cannot live without you and your offerings but exactly why they cannot live without you. If you communicate that properly, you will have them eating out of your hand.

Conclusion

You are undoubtedly a great writer. However, the truth is that getting other people to make a commitment to your content and to your brand will take some effort on your part. Remember to connect with your target audience on a human/emotional level and make them understand that you are in it together. Of course, all of your efforts will be well worth it in the end. Your ability to get your content noticed is not just about good, solid writing. It is also about grabbing your reader in a way that makes it impossible to stop reading.

These are great techniques! Giving people something they can learn is also key. It is one of the hardest things with all the content out there. Making sure your audience can take something away will not only grab attention but people will see your brand as adding value and will want to come back.
