Prose with a Purpose

social media content

You probably understand that content is an integral part of your business and thus, an essential piece of the foundation to your success. Well, it certainly isn’t enough just to share any piece of content. It must be content that is driven by the principles behind your business and it must be focused on your target audience’s wants and needs. Your content must have purpose and your communication about that purpose should define the reason that you chose to go in that particular direction.

What is content?

Content can be many things to may people and to many businesses. Even if it takes you a long time and many different drafts to come up with the perfect content, it doesn’t matter. You will get there when you get there and that is really all that matters. You may have several different purposes but you will only have one main purpose. You must be patient and confident in the understanding that you will achieve all of those purposes but you must also stay focused on the main purpose. If you do that, the others will fall into place.

Content is at the heart of your business and it is one of the main blocks of the foundation of your business’s success. Your main purpose is the reason that you chose to write and share the content that you have in front of you now. It is the purpose from which all other purposes will stem and branch out in effective ways.

It is all in the explanation

Depending on your particular business, your content’s purpose(s) will be different than another person’s purpose(s). Of course, one of the main purposes of your content is to share information so that the person on the receiving end has the opportunity to understand what you are all about and how you can help that person. Another purpose is that you can start to build a relationship (or build on an already-existing relationship) with the other person. The interactions that you will have as a result of that content will be invaluable and they will help you both to solidify the relationship that you share.

When it comes to explaining your ideas, you can approach it in many different ways. You can use the “compare-and-contrast” approach, the “cause-and-effect” approach, a simpler explanation of the process that you are following, you can use a timeline, or you can divide your concepts into categories, and then explain the components within those categories.

Use your unique words

The way that you choose to express yourself makes you unique and it makes you an individual. Each person expresses him- or herself differently and each person uses a unique voice. You certainly would not want it any other way because then it would be really boring. One thing that you will have in common with other people is that your content must resonate with the target audience and connect with them on a human/emotional level. If that doesn’t happen, the other person will have no reason to pay attention to what you are sharing. Your words must touch the other person. The way that you choose to organize the words is totally up to you but the basic elements that you have in common with other people’s writing will not change.

Keep it interesting

The last thing that you want is for your writing to be dull. If it doesn’t grab your audience, they will move on to something new. You can communicate effectively but still ensure that it is interesting, exciting, compelling, etc. Your content should invoke emotions (mostly positive) and sometimes there will be a mix of positive and negative reactions. When your audience walks away from your content, you want them to feel a mix of emotions and you want them to continue to think about what you have shared long after they have walked away.

Be persuasive

There are many different ways to convince someone to do what you want them to do. You can do it subtly or directly. It is important that you have a good understanding of your target audience as people before you try to convince them to change their minds about anything. You need to connect with them on a human level before anything else. If you are credible and you can back up what you are saying with real evidence and logic, you can probably win them over. Make sure that you come to them with a clear purpose and always make them understand that you are there to help them with whatever they need.

Conclusion

Your content should always have a purpose and you should write with that in mind from the first word until the last. You should never just write content to hear yourself. It must serve a much deeper purpose than that. Always remember to keep your target audience in mind before anyone (or anything) else. If you are able to meet their needs, yours, in turn, will be met as well.
