Grabbing Attention with Your Content and Keeping it

Grabbing Attention
Print Friendly, PDF & Email

It is one thing to write amazing content (which, of course, is an absolute necessity). However, it is quite another (and far more challenging) to keep the attention of your target audience members and compel them to keep reading whatever you are sharing.

The challenge of sustaining the magic

Obstacle number 1 is to write amazing, attention-grabbing, valuable content that other people will get excited about reading. When you first start out to write content that will be received in an extremely positive manner, you will go through the same learning process that all other writers go through. In the beginning, it may be hit or miss but it probably will not take too long for you to improve your writing and to hit the nail on the head each and every time.

There are many different parts of your content that must really grab your readers. As a writer, you will undoubtedly understand exactly what to say in order to not only make your readers pay attention to what you are saying but also to understand exactly how you will be able to help them with whatever issue they are experiencing.  Your combination of words and images must really wow them each and every time you share a new piece of content.

However, as challenging as the writing may seem, it is not nearly as challenging as keeping your readers interested. Well, don’t worry, there are certainly ways of accomplishing that.

Create a safe haven

You want your readers to get a really nice, homey feeling every time they read a piece of your content. After all, your readers are giving up their precious time to read what you are sharing and if they are not sure (or are sure that it is not) of its value, they will go elsewhere pretty quickly. That is the last thing that you want to happen. If you are not able to capture their attention once, how are you possibly going to keep their attention on a long-term basis? You want them to feel compelled to come to you because they get something positive and valuable out of what you are sharing with them. On the other hand, if you do manage to accomplish that, they will keep coming back to you for more, over and over again.

Once you have posted, make it a one-on-one experience with your individual readers

At this point, you have posted some top-notch content. So, now what do you do? The one thing that you are not able (or allowed) to do is to sit back and wait for something to happen because it won’t. At least, not without some time and effort on your part. Now is the time for you to start to really engage your readers. If you listen properly,  you will hear exactly what your reader needs from you. As is the case with any meaningful relationship, the relationship with your reader must also be built on trust, credibility, and the idea that your reader respects your knowledge and expertise. In a real relationship, each person gets what he or she wants and needs. Otherwise, it isn’t a real relationship. It is important to remember here that each piece of content that you share and each interaction that you have with the other person should bring you both closer together. If that is not happening, you need to figure out what needs to change.

Raise the bar on your content for more sustaining power

As wonderful as your content is and as enthralled with it as your reader is, you can’t continue to present content at exactly the same level. You need to raise the bar so that the reader not only remains interested in what you have to say but actually needs to keep interacting and reading what you are sharing. You want the other person to feel that he or she cannot do without your expertise. The fact is that the more you give them, the more they will want. As amazing as that is, you must also be up for the task and give them what they need each time.

Establish a mutual respect

The relationship that you share with the other person is sacred. It must be built on trust and respect. Those qualities must remain constants throughout the relationship without pause. You must fortify the relationship with love, caring, patience, and respect. As important as the relationship is between you, it must also feel like it is easy to keep it going. If it is too much work, neither of you will have the patience to stick with it forever. It is too important to risk losing.

Conclusion

Writing and posting excellent content is truly all-important. However, the bigger challenge lies in sustaining the relationship and keeping your readers coming back for more. In your successful efforts to keep your content compelling, if you inject a little mystery into your content, the readers will be driven to keep coming back to learn what the mystery was all about. Give them a precious nugget of excitement each and every time and they will be yours. Only then will they think of you first the next time they need to buy what you are selling.
