Making the Most of Your Content

Content is king now and it will always be king! That means that if you are comfortable writing content, you will have no difficulty coming up with top-shelf content on a consistent, regular basis. However, what do you do if you are not so comfortable with writing and eliciting the reaction from your target audience that you expect.

Expressing yourself effectively through content 

Because not all business owners (or anyone who works) are natural-born writers, they may not all be able to  express their thoughts and feelings effectively through their content. Of course, there is also the possibility that some business people don’t enjoy writing and they view it as a most bitter pill. If either of those scenarios apply, it is important to understand that there are ways around it that will still achieve a positive result. 

Share your story effectively: It is important for you to understand how important it is that your content clearly expresses your story (actually, you will have many stories to tell over time). There is no doubt that your content should be correct from a technical perspective as well. In other words, you should pay close attention to grammar, punctuation, spelling, sense, and flow. However, on the more ethereal side, you should also make sure that your content has an emotional/human bent to it. It is that human quality that will ring true for the people who are reading what you are sharing. The reason for that is that they will be able to relate to what you are saying because they have experienced something similar. Before you start writing anything, you must establish what story you want to tell. It is important to remember that if you are sincere, genuine, and sensitive, even if your writing is not top quality and really sophisticated, you will be able to touch your readers emotionally.

Express yourself through a video: When you think of content, that content is not always in the form of written words on paper (or a screen). Content can come in many forms, including graphic images (stills) and videos. A video can be extremely effective for those people who are visual. In that case, words on a page will not have nearly the positive impact that a video or a graphic image will have. If you are having a difficult time coming up with video topics, you can use the same sources that you do when you write content and you can take a look at what your competitors are doing. They may give you some great ideas as well.

Get someone else to create your content (sometimes): Sometimes, you need (and want) to create the content yourself and sometimes it is okay to get help from someone else. However, it is important to remember that whether you create the content yourself or you have someone else do it, it must always tell your story, no matter what. As a person who is running a successful business, the chances are great that you will be busy with a lot of different things and content creation may not always be at the very top of your list of priorities. It is recommended, however, that you get the same person (or people) to create your content each time so that you have consistency. People will come to expect that from you and it is very important that you deliver on that every time. Before the other person (or people) creates the content, it is a really good idea to sit down with him or her so that the other person understands exactly what you want and need. It is important not to assume anything but, rather, to state it clearly for the other person.

Conclusion

Not everyone in the world has the same content creation skills. Some people are amazing writers who have a relatively easy time of creating all of the different types of content while others are not as comfortable or as skilled with content. If you are in the second category, you shouldn’t let that stop you. You can still write (or have written for you) wonderful, effective, valuable content that will have a positive impact on the people with whom you are sharing that content. You need to start with the concept, do the research, hone your research findings, organize the concepts of your content, and start writing. Additionally, once you have written the content (or created in some other way), you need to focus on sharing it with as many appropriate target audience members as possible.
