How to Take Dull Web Content and Make it Sing

You probably have posted content related to your business. The question is whether that content is exciting or dull. If you find that other people are not excitedly reading your content (with a voracious appetite), it is possible that the reason for that is that it is not exciting to them. You can change that and the results will be amazing.

Recognizing content as the powerful tool that it is

If you write and promote it properly, your content can be an amazing marketing tool for your business. However, you really do need to leverage it in the most effective way possible. If you write content that you think is exciting (the writing as well as the topic of the content), that doesn’t necessarily mean that your content is exciting and compelling to the people who are reading your content. It is important to become introspective and to be realistic about how your content comes across to other people.

Every one of your readers (or, at least, most of them) will give you a chance in the beginning. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean that they will stick with you on a long-term basis.

When it comes to your website content, it is critical that your content is not static, which commonly happens with websites. That doesn’t mean that you have to change your website content every week. However, you should refresh the content on a regular basis at appropriate intervals. Fresh content throughout your online presence is critical to your business’ success. That static content will not draw people to your business. In that case, you will not be able to establish a relationship with anyone in that scenario.

There are several ways that you can improve the situation. Certainly, you should not feel that all hope is lost because it certainly is not.

  • Identify a formula and stick with it: If you find that a particular approach is working for you, you should stick with it. Your formula is particularly important because it helps you to stay focused and organized so that you can give the most benefit to your readers. Before you choose any particular formula (or approach), you should consider the options that are in front of you. You not only want to study those formulas carefully but you also should determine which approach will be most effective for your particular business. The fact is that not all formulas work for all businesses effectively.

Whichever approach you end up choosing, there are some basic elements that are in common with other approaches and you will want to be comfortable with knowing what they are so that you can embrace them at the proper time. First of all, you will need to identify the issue that your reader is experiencing. The next thing that you will want to do is to dissect the issue to the best of your ability. If you can do that, it will be easier to conquer and not so overwhelming. Once you have successfully accomplished that, you can come up with a solution to the issue that will work. Your reader will be forever grateful.

  • Recognize the importance of your headline: All of your content needs a headline. The headline is critical to you because the reader will not continue reading if your headline is not effective. You have exactly 3 seconds to capture the attention of the reader with your headline. If you can’t accomplish that in 3 seconds, that person will move on to someone else’s content and leave you in the dust.

Your headline is an essential way to allow your readers to connect with you. It is essential because that is the beginning of your relationship with the other person. Not only do you need to have keywords or key phrases in your headline but you also need to let your reader know that you have the ability to solve his or her problems. If you manage to do that, you will be golden.

  • Share your story: All successful content tells a story. Your story is personal. It is based on an experience that you had. That means that it has a strong emotional element. Because of that emotional element, it will resonate with the other person. That is absolutely necessary. You will be writing many pieces of content so you will be sharing many different stories. Those stories will definitely endear you to your readers and you will be demonstrating that you are human, just like they are.

  • Make your form of expression exciting and unusual: Part of what will keep your writing compelling and exciting is the fact that you will express yourself in different ways. That will capture the attention of your readers. You wouldn’t want to read the same content expressed in exactly the same way each time so why would you think that other people would feel any differently that you do. It is that simple.

  • Keep your language simple:  You don’t want to use language that is so sophisticated that your readers don’t understand what you are trying to say. If you keep the language simple, everyone will understand you. However, make sure that you don’t write in a condescending or offensive way. If you do that (even if it is unintentional), people will know and they will not continue following you and devouring your content.

Conclusion

Exciting content is critical to your business’ success and it is the only way that other people will stick with you. If your content is dull, other people will simply not read it and you will be finished before you even start. However, the good news is that you can turn it around and provide content that other people really want to read. It is important for you to get creative (within reason). It is a good idea to introduce different types of content, such as videos, slide presentations, eBooks, etc, which will capture your readers’ attention. Of course, it goes without saying that if you are passionate about your topics and you express it in an exciting way, other people will become passionate about it as well.
