The Importance of Good Content in Your Social Media Marketing

The truth is that content is what compels people to form relationships, interact, form mutually beneficial partnerships, and buy from each other and sell to each other. That is exactly why your content must be everything that you need it to be and then some. If your content isn’t top-notch, you will not be able to accomplish any of those things and your business will crash and burn.

Successfully growing your business

Before anything else, you need to make sure that your content is compelling and extremely valuable. Obviously, that means that you need to do your homework (research) even before you sit down to do any writing at all (or asking someone else to write for you). Once you have totally nailed down what you want to write about (which will be dictated, to a great extent, by your target audience members), it is time to sit down and tell your story (in the form of content). On the other hand, if you tell your story in a way that is less than exciting and doesn’t resonate with your target audience members, you will not get to where you want to be.

Don’t worry. You can still bounce back and be resoundingly successful. It is just that you may have to change your approach somewhat. Considering that you are posting content to social media sites, at the heart of those activities is the conversation itself. Your interactions with other people will be social even though the written content is extremely important in this case. The most important concept to remember is that if you can’t hold the reader’s attention, the person will not stick around. It is imperative that you capture the other person’s attention and hold it on a long-term basis.

The consequences of having drab content

You may be under the impression that there will not be any really awful repercussions if your content falls short. Well, you couldn’t be more wrong. Just like your reputation (in a positive direction) is largely dependent on word-of-mouth, the same goes for your reputation in a negative sense. People talk. In fact, you are the only person who is not allowed to sing your praises. As you are probably aware, if the praise were coming from you, it would lack credibility.

If you are wondering, at this point, exactly what your life would be like if your content were less than what it should be, there are several negative consequences that could occur.

  • People would not have any desire to follow you because they wouldn’t deem your content valuable.

  • People would not become loyal to your brand and, of course,  your brand would suffer tremendously because of it.

  • You would not be able to bring your business to the next level because you would not be making any progress.

  • You would be extremely disappointed with the results that you would produce after having made so much effort.

You certainly don’t want any of that to happen. It is interesting (and disappointing) to realize how quickly other people lose interest in you and in your brand/business if you fail to give them what they want and need. If they lose interest, they will not interact with you and they will not continue to follow you. Of course, that also means that they will not tell other people how amazing your and your brand are.

Make your content everything that it needs to be

When it comes to your content, words and images are both important. However, you need to apply a successful strategy for everything that you do in relation to your content. That means that you strategically marry your words to your images. Of course, it goes without saying that your content must resonate with your target audience members and that it must convince them that you have the ability to help them with whatever problem they are experiencing at the time. That is critical.

When it comes to content and social media, your social media activities don’t end with your posting content. After you post what you have written (or have had written for you), you need to promote it appropriately and effectively. Otherwise, it is like building a casino in the Nevada desert. It may be the most amazing place anyone has ever seen. However, if nobody knows about it and nobody has ever visited that casino, what good is it going to do you or anyone else? You need to tell people about it and you need to help them to get excited about what you are doing and to make them understand how they can benefit from your knowledge and experience.

Social media and content go hand in hand in a really big way. Of course, that concept is certainly not new. However, one really great thing is that (within the boundaries of what is appropriate) you have a lot of freedom to express yourself in a creative, unique way. Content has played a significant role in marketing for many years. As a business person (whether you own the business or you work for someone else’s business), you have a responsibility of making sure that your content is top-notch and that your social media activities support your content and support your brand and what it represents.
