Writing Substantial, Lengthy Blogs

There are many people who write short, clear, concise blogs because that is what they believe that their readers want and need. Of course, short blogs are a better choice than no blogs. However, writing short blogs is not always the most effective approach. Lengthy blogs are sometimes more appropriate and have more favorable results than shorter blogs.

Whatever you write, make it meaningful

It is important for you to have in your head that you should never write blogs merely for the sake of writing them. They need to have meaning and they need to have purpose. Most importantly, they need to fulfill the needs and wants of your target audience members. One of the obvious advantages to writing more substantial blogs is that you will have an opportunity to say a lot more. You will be able to share your expertise and your knowledge in a more thorough manner and your target audience members will benefit from that. There are several different reasons why long blogs are justified and valuable.

More opportunity to wow your target audience members: On many occasions, being limited to writing a short blog means that you are not given the opportunity to say all that you want to say. Your knowledge and expertise is the reason that your readers are interested in what you are sharing with them. When it comes to blog writing, you want to give your readers enough information to want more but not so much that you are giving away the store. You want to save the real gems for when they decide to pay for your products and/or services, which, of course, is your ultimate goal.

You can reach a wider audience: If you write a more substantial blog, you have the potential to reach a wider audience. Some of the limitations that you experience with a shorter blog just don’t exist if you are able to write a more expansive one. Whereas, in a short blog you can cover one aspect of a topic (that is all that you have room for), you may be able to cover two or three aspects of that same topic in a more substantial blog, which offers your readers more than one dimension. Life is not one-dimensional so why should your blogs be? Please bear in mind that if you have the space to broach more than one topic in your blog, as long as you communicate it properly, there is nothing wrong with doing that. It will be interesting and valuable to your readers.

Your bounce rate will decrease: There is a direct correlation between the length of a blog and the amount of time that the reader is willing to stay on that page. Of course, that doesn’t mean that you should write a blog the size of a book. Between 1,000 and 1,500 words will be perfect. You can do a lot of good with a blog that size and it will allow you to say everything that you want to say in the way that you want to say it. In many cases, a reader will not bother with a really short blog post because, in that person’s mind, it doesn’t hold value if it is too short. From the reader’s perspective, what could the writer possibly convey in so few words? Of course, that is not necessarily true but perception holds a great deal of weight.

You can use back links more freely in a longer blog post: Most likely, you would agree that back links are very important for your professional success. It is one of the few ways that your reader has to interact with you. The other way is with the call-to-action, which is also essential. It is also a way for you to enhance your reader’s experience. Most likely, it will pay off for you because your reader will keep coming back to you over and over again. Since you have the luxury of more length, you don’t need to feel that you have to hurry up and stuff all of the links into your blog content that you want to put in.

You can generate more leads: Longer blogs generates more leads than shorter blogs. Your readers get to know what you stand for more thoroughly and they start to build a relationship with you and respect for you. Before you know it, your blogs become a major resource for their business strategy and you are top-of-mind for them. It is absolutely the position that you want to be in with your target audience members.

Your blog content will be shared with a greater amount of people: Earlier on in this blog, we spoke about how a longer blog enables you to reach a wider audience. Well, along with that, a longer blog also causes your blogs to be shared with a larger number of people. It is actually quite logical. The more exposure your blogs get, the more potential there is for many other people to have the opportunity to read them and to share them.

Conclusion

Don’t be afraid or apprehensive about writing longer blogs. It is a very positive thing to do, as long as you do it appropriately. If your readers are into what you are sharing, they will eat it up and want to share it with other people whom they know and trust. A while ago, it was assumed that people didn’t have the time or the inclination (or patience) to read long blogs. As it turns out, that is not the case. Longer blogs often hold a nice amount of valuable concepts and provoke interesting thoughts in the reader. Nowadays, as technology advances and so do the users of technology, those users are after specific types of information and it may be impossible to answer their questions or resolve their issues with a really short blog. If they are not satisfied with the information, they will not stay connected to you and to your business.
