How to Ensure that Your Emails Are Read

When it comes to marketing your Emails, you have a few options. You can send them to your target audience and hope that your recipients will open them and read them to the end. Your second option is to take certain steps to ensure that they are opened and read completely.

Why is getting your Emails read so important?

There are several reasons why it is so important for your Email recipients to read your Emails completely. First of all (and, possibly, the most obvious reason), you have undoubtedly spent a great deal of time on the Email that you are sending out and you want your hard work and tremendous effort to be recognized and appreciated. The second reason is that you will not be able to make progress when it comes to your brand and your business if what you are trying to express falls on deaf ears, so to speak. You have something important to share and if the person on the other end is not receptive, where will you be?

By now, you must have established the fact that leaving the success of your Emails to chance is probably not a great idea. Option B is a much better choice and one that will allow you to make progress in your business.

  • Use a trusted name after “From”: If you use a name that your recipient trusts, the person will be much more likely to continue reading your Email. It is your first stopping point and you better make sure that you do whatever it takes to hold your recipient’s attention. If your Email doesn’t make it past that part, you are done.

You need to try to find a way to personalize that part of it. It is not enough to use the name of your company. You should pair it with a person’s name (yours or someone else who is recognizable). You will see that it is far more effective that way.

  • Make your Email’s subject line work for you: Subject lines in Emails are not a “one size fits all” situation. Also, you should make sure that your subject line is precise. Each target audience has its own needs and desires. It may take you a little while to come up with the perfect subject line for your particular target audience but there is no doubt that you will come up with it.

Your subject line should either be fewer than 32 character or fewer than 50 characters. The first number is the maximum amount that an iPhone will allow before truncating. The second number is the maximum that will prevent your Email from ending up in the junk folder. Your subject line should be compelling and enticing. It is not the place to use humor. It should be straight and to the point.

  • Make sure that you include preheader text in your Email: That text will catch the eye of your Email recipients. It basically acts as a teaser paragraph would in a blog article. You have an opportunity to include valuable information that can really have a positive impact on your recipients. You can also include an effective call-to-action, which is critical to your success. The preheader text is another part of your Email that is not carved in stone. You can play with the language and test it on your recipients to determine which words work better than other words. Just like the subject line, it may take a little effort to come up with the most effective language. Don’t worry. You will definitely get there.

  • Construct your Email with mobile devices in mind: The chances are very good that your Email recipients (or at least, a large portion of them) will be reading your Email on their mobile device(s). With that in mind, it is most sensible for you to have that in mind from the beginning. The formatting should be constructed with that in mind (for example, line breaks, dividing lines, background colors, etc). If you can get your recipients to read your Email completely, you have a really good chance of getting that person to go to the next step and interact with you in some way.

Conclusion

Your goal is to get your Email recipients to read what you are sending to them completely. Remember to keep the language simple and to be clear and concise. You should also make sure to have a personal tone to the Email. Your recipients will appreciate it and you will achieve the positive results that you are seeking.

Discussion: Why Do People Read Your Emails?

Bernard Zimmermann: Who it is from is the most important but there is little most of us can do about that! Although I think I get a better readership rate if rather then use my personal company email Bernard@poss rather then a role based company email address like support@poss… or admin@poss..
