Does the web host have anything to do with my search engine rankings?

A web host cannot help to improve the rankings. Search Engines will not rank you higher because your site is hosted on a particular web host. However, if the server where your website is hosted is often "down" or if your website is slow to load (as is often the case with "cheap" web hosting deals—when the hosting company places too many websites on a particular server), this can have a negative effect when the search engine spiders your website if it is not available or too slow. The spider will simply give up crawling your website and your website won’t get indexed in their lists—if your website is down, it could result in a search engine de-listing you.
