You are constantly being told that it is critical for you to come out on top of the search engine page in order to have a successful business. The necessity of high search engine rankings is essential to your success.

It is widely understood that the higher your search engine rankings, the more successful your business will be because the greater the number of people who connect with you and your business, the better your chances will be of gaining more revenue. This is one of the main topics of conversation among small business owners. However, how much difference does it actually make to your ultimate professional success?

The importance of search engine optimization (SEO)

Undoubtedly, SEO is essential for your business and you should always aspire to be Number One in the rankings. As a successful business owner, you understand that doing business means that you are interacting in person as well as interacting online. You should never do one without the other because both are needed in order to be truly successful. It is very important to interact on a human level and that is not always possible online. However, online interactions are an extremely important part of your armamentarium when it comes to the road to success. It is appropriate to think of the content that you are sharing online as an extension of you as a person. Now you need to figure out how that translates to SEO and your rankings and you need to figure out exactly how necessary Number One rankings is for you. The source of your customers (exactly where they come from) is an important part of the answer.

Keeping up with the Joneses

It is important to compete “apples to apples.” It isn’t appropriate (or even probable) to compete effectively with large businesses if you own a small business. Large businesses will outrun you based on their budget alone. If you throw in resources that they  have at their fingertips, you may not be able to keep up. Large businesses probably won’t  have any problem earning top rankings because they have the power to do so. It isn’t that they will be spending money directly to achieve that goal. However, behind the scenes, they can pour resources and manpower into generating vast amounts of content that will increase their business’s exposure and boost their reputation. Whatever resources you decide to use to achieve higher rankings, you need to make sure that you are choosing the most effective methods possible. Your resources are limited and you had better make it good. It is critical that your return on investment (ROI) is worthwhile.

Don’t believe everything that you read

There are a huge number of scams out there nowadays. People will tell you that if you pay them a certain sum of money, they can guarantee that you will end up on the top of the search engine pages. That is a false claim. They don’t have the power to guarantee that. Not for all of the money in the universe. The most effective way to earn high search engine rankings is by consistently and steadily posting and syndicating your content so that you increase your exposure and boost your reputation to the point where people know who you are. You want them to think of you and your business first the next time they need what you are offering.

Conclusion

Search engine rankings are critical to the success of your business but getting to that point should be done with a strategy that is well thought out, matches your particular business, and builds trust and credibility that will help you to build powerful, mutually beneficial relationships with other people. Many people are motivated to buy based on what the search engines are telling them. It is critical that you keep that in mind. If you want to find out how you rank and how others are regarding you, search for your business and see what comes up.

I’m starting to realize how important it is.
Having an active site with relevant topics is one thing that doesn’t always mean people will find it.

It seems as if the algorithms are changing constantly. Old, old information is now showing up on page one. Go figure.

Oh yes…. While I remember… The people that call and book me call having seen my Yellow Pages advert, my vehicle advertising or they know somebody that knows me. Website adverts… zero callers.

Fine but you can keep mucking about with seo and all the rubbish. So will everybody else. Those with the most cash to waste will be the ones who tweak often enough to be at the top. Everybody else will be an also-ran since only one site can ever be at the top. Now imagine a sector such as photography where there are five hundred people vying to be in the top 3 slots. It’s just not worth the bother or the expense. Once you get to the top, 500 other people will be trying to knock you off. No point in a game like that.
