<p>With social media having such an incredibly strong foothold and print media stepping back a bit, you may wonder what is in the future for journalism. In the future, how will social media connect with journalism?<span id="more-2130"></span></p>
<p>Social media has tremendously changed the way that journalists do their jobs. In order for journalists to be successful nowadays, they must be heavily involved with social media. They need to be tweeting, updating their various social media profiles and blogging. If they are not doing that, other journalists will be involved with social media and they will have a serious advantage over them. In the world of journalism, all successes depend on getting the story before anyone else does. Social media has created a filter for high-quality content. Another wonderful edge that journalists who are involved with social media have is that they are gaining the trust and credibility of their readers and they can interact and continue to strengthen the relationships. Journalists use social media to collect and syndicate the news. So, what will the relationship between social media and journalists be like in the future?</p>
<p><strong>Journalists&rsquo; involvement in social media</strong></p>
<p>Many businesses are actively using social media platforms to include news content in their web presences. There is an emphasis being placed on the quality and uniqueness of the news content. Many social media companies are either partnering with or buying news sites so that the two can offer both quality and quantity. The news content is customized for individuals and there is as much content as a person could possibly ever want or need.</p>
<p><strong>Social media&rsquo; involvement in journalism</strong></p>
<p>Nowadays, there are many journalists who no longer work with traditional print journalism at all. Their writing skills haven&rsquo;t changed at all, however, the dissemination has changed dramatically. Because of the expansive capabilities of social media, journalists can offer all sorts of opportunities to their readers (such as being able to vote for their favorite news story, for example) that have never been available before. In short, the readers have much more direct and personal involvement with the journalists than ever before. With the interactive feature of social media platforms, it is completely conducive to the readers getting involved and interacting on a regular basis.</p>
<p><strong>What will the future hold?</strong></p>
<p>Social media will allow more people to be heard. Of course, the one thing that can happen is that a large amount of the content will not be high-quality content. Most people will only be interested in content that they really enjoy reading. When it comes to journalism, the facts must be backed up by credible sources and the credibility factor must be very high. There must be a great deal of substance to the content. Pretty, empty words really won&rsquo;t go very far with the readers.</p>

<p>Journalists and the entire journalism industry has always been incredibly important. It is important to remember that staying in touch with the public is an objective that is at the top of the priority list and truly fulfills the needs of both sides&mdash;the journalists&rsquo; needs and the needs of the readers. <p>Yes, a blog is definitely a great way to promote a business online these days &ndash; now that everyone can become a publisher at NO cost, or at relatively low cost. Anyone with an Internet connection can post his or her thoughts, opinions, and activities on the Global Whiteboard for people to read and comment on.</p>
<p>Here are 10 basic reasons to start blogging:</p>
<ol>
<li>Publishing platform</li>
<li>Control your message</li>
<li>Delivery system for your messages</li>
<li>24/7 Online network</li>
<li>New skill development</li>
<li>Increased perception through Web 2.0 sources</li>
<li>Visibility</li>
<li>Reputation management (your silence allows your critics to win)</li>
<li>Build Google presence</li>
<li>Research increases your expertise</li>
</ol>
<p><b>Follow these 5 steps to get you blogging</b></p>
<p><strong>Step 1</strong>: Before proceeding to <strong>Step 2</strong>, make sure that you really want to start a blog.</p>
<ul>
<li>Are you passionate enough about a topic that you want to write and publish your ideas on a regular basis?</li>
<li>Can you commit to a consistent schedule, eg, once a week? Twice a week? Twice a day?</li>
<li>Will you be comfortable learning as you&rsquo;re doing? Think of Picasso, who said, &ldquo;I am always doing that which I don&rsquo;t know how to do in order to learn to do it.&rdquo;</li>
<li>Can you be patient about putting in effort <em><strong>before</strong></em> you see the big &ldquo;payoff,&rdquo; ie, results and lots of readers?</li>
<li>Will you make time to read other peoples&rsquo; blogs and comment on them?</li>
<li>Would you like to be an authentic, honest, interesting Voice in the blogosphere?</li>
</ul>
<p><i>If the answer is YES to all six questions, proceed to <strong>Step 2</strong>.</i></p>
<p><strong>Step 2</strong>: Spend a little bit of time searching the Internet for <em>How to Blog</em> articles. Many may be more advanced than a beginner can understand, but that&rsquo;s OK. Reading them will still help you, and they may provide links to more basic articles.</p>
<p><strong>Step 3</strong>: Do NOT wait until you think you will write a perfect blog post. If I had waited, I might never have gotten started. Common Wisdom suggests that you listen to Nike, ie, Just Do It. You will learn from your mistakes. After all, when you do get started, few people will know you are &ldquo;out there,&rdquo; so you can build your chops and publish content, which can always be revised and/or deleted later on.</p>
<p><strong>Step 4</strong>; Choose a blogging platform. My suggestion is that you go with WordPress &ndash; the most popular and well supported blog tool and publishing platform. Here you have another choice: the absolutely FREE <a href="http://wordpress.com">http://wordpress.com</a> or the companion platform <a href="http://wordpress.org">http://wordpress.org</a>, which requires you to (a) have a domain name that will cost you less than $10 a year and (b) a blog hosting company that will cost around $10 a month.</p>
<p><i>Why would you pay when you can blog for free?</i></p>
<p>Actually, my suggestion is that you do choose the <em>free </em>option, wordpress.com, for a month or so to make sure that you want to commit to the practice. <p>Self-hosting, ie, a blog on a platform like wordpress.org, will offer you much more control, including options like the following:</p>
<p>1. Your own URL and opportunity to build your brand without having to use the platform name, eg, <a href="http://sharisax.com">http://sharisax.com</a> vs my &ldquo;free&rdquo; blog that was at <a href="http://sharisaxiisoutthere/wordpress.com">http://sharisaxiisoutthere.wordpress.com</a></p>
<p>2. An almost unlimited number of designs (or themes) that can be found free online or designed uniquely for your blog by a professional web developer</p>
<p>3. Opportunities to sell products and services as well as include advertising</p>
<p>4. Addition of a large variety of &ldquo;plugins&rdquo; or applications that will extend the capabilities of your blog</p>
<p><strong>Step 5</strong>: <b><i>Just do it! </i></b>Get started. <p>You have heard the term &ldquo;Article Marketing&rdquo; many times and are hopefully publishing your articles to many websites and educating many people. Article marketing is an art and there are dos and don&rsquo;ts when it comes to their success.<span id="more-1234"></span></p>
<p>Electronic article marketing is not any different than traditional marketing. The principles upon which it stands are identical to traditional marketing. The objective of the articles that are being published is to promote your business. Additionally (as always), the main purpose is to build relationships with prospective and existing clients.</p>
<p>When you submit your articles to article directories, you are allowing them to get noticed by search engines, which in turn, will generate more website traffic for you. It is really quite easy to be successful when it comes to submitting, publishing, and syndicating articles. Here is a list of &ldquo;dos&rdquo; and &ldquo;don&rsquo;ts&rdquo; when it comes to article marketing.</p>
<p><strong>Dos</strong></p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Do </strong>as much research as possible. It is essential that you know your target audience before you write a single word. You need to identify what your audience wants and needs. You must also try to acquire as much knowledge as possible about the particular subject that you are discussing.<br />
		&nbsp;</li>
<li><strong>Do </strong>make sure that your article content is compelling and informative. Always remember that the articles that you share with others should always be geared toward solving their problems.<br />
		&nbsp;</li>
<li><strong>Do </strong>market, not sell. Always bear in mind that article marketing is not advertising. What you are doing by sharing articles is offering a solution to the reader&rsquo;s problems, which consequently will incite them to want to buy from you eventually.<br />
		&nbsp;</li>
<li><strong>Do </strong>make full use of search engine optimization tactics. Always make sure that you use strong and appropriate keywords and key phrases, choose the best title possible, make sure that you place your keywords where they will be most effective, put in strong links, and make sure that you have an appropriate author resource box in your articles so that you can optimize your traffic and search engine rankings.<br />
		&nbsp;</li>
<li><strong>Do </strong>choose quality over quantity. It is much wiser and more effective to writer fewer articles of high quality than many articles that are of mediocre quality. You really won&rsquo;t be doing yourself or your business any favors if you don&rsquo;t concentrate on the quality.</li>

<p><strong>Don&rsquo;ts</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>&nbsp;<strong>Don&rsquo;t</strong> give the impression (ever) that you are trying to sell something. Blatant self-promotion is never a good thing. There are many other more discreet ways to get your point across when it comes to your offerings. The hard sell will be resented and a possible consequence for you might be that you will be banned from those particular directories. It also detracts from your credibility and from the trust that others have in you. It is just not worth it.<br />
		&nbsp;</li>
<li><strong>Don&rsquo;t</strong> use links carelessly. You need to consider your articles as a sales tool but at the same time, you need to be very careful (and very discriminating) about how you use that tool. <li>If you have gotten your readers past your teaser paragraph, they will most likely read the rest of the article. You should consider that your readers are very busy people and that they don&#039;t have the time or the patience to read long-winded prose. They like helpful ideas that are short and to the point. Bullet points are an excellent way to break up long, boring paragraphs.<br />
		&nbsp;</li>
<li>Your concluding paragraph should be a quick summation of all of the concepts that you have already mentioned in your article. This paragraph can actually serve as a useful, little cheat sheet that they can carry with them in one form or another.<br />

<li>One of the most critical elements in&nbsp;your blog article is your Call-to-Action statement. If you have the most incredible, wise, informative article and you don&#039;t give your readers any opportunity to contact you, it has all been a wasted effort. in your Call-to-Action statement, you should make sure that you either give them an Email address or a phone number so that they can easily contact you. This will be the beginning of your interactions with your readers and you will build relationships with them that will hopefully last a very long time.</li>

<p>Now that the parts of the actual article and specifically what to do in order to make them a success&nbsp;have been discussed, let&#039;s&nbsp;speak about&nbsp;the science behind syndicating your blog article. Regarding the frequency of your blog articles, if your goal is to continue to increase your online exposure and reputation, publishing three articles a week seems to work extremely well.</p>
<p>To drill down to even more specificity, posting your articles on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday seem to be the optimal days of the week. Research has shown that publishing on Mondays and Fridays is not a good idea. When people start their week on Monday, they have tons of Emails to go through as well as other important things that have been sitting throughout the weekend. Friday is also not a good day because people are anxious to start their weekend and don&#039;t have the patience to read new articles online. Saturday seems to work because, surprisingly, people want to stay connected on the weekend.</p>
<p>Now that the optimal days of the week have been established, let&#039;s speak&nbsp;for a minute about the times of the day to post. The best time to post is at 6 am (before people start their work day). You will find that a great deal of people are paying attention to what you are publishing at that hour and they will be more inclined to leave comments on your articles, which is exactly what you want to happen.</p>
<p>Regarding the length of your blog articles, anywhere from 500 to 1,000 words is perfectly acceptable. Anymore than that and people will grow impatient and not want to read the entire article. Of course, if your writing is compelling and exciting enough, they will read what you write no matter what the length.</p>
