At the heart of social media’s success is the relationship. If you don’t connect to others on a human level and find what you have in common on an emotional level, you won’t be able to get anywhere at all. Make sure that your communications are short and to the point. Let people understand how dedicated you are to making the event the best that it can be for everyone.
For a very long time, people had a great need (whether they realized it or not) to connect with other people in a way that was easy, effective, valuable and interesting. At the same time, one of the reasons that social media works so well and is increasing in popularity on a regular basis is because people can hide the parts of themselves that they don’t want to share when interacting online. They don’t need to reveal all of the way they are forced to do when interacting in person.
When it comes to interactions, it is critical to the success of your business to not only get involved in valuable discussions but to lead those discussions so that you position yourself as a subject matter expert. Your ultimate goal with that is to get people to think of you and your business first when it comes to needing what you happen to be selling. You certainly don’t want them to go to someone else instead of you. A great way to cement your foothold in the business relationships that you are trying to secure is to not only interact online but also to host offline events. This will bring your relationships to a new, deeper level. Having the two dimensions, online and in person, will really do wonders for the way that you relate to the other people in your online, professional circle.
If you do plan to host an offline event, there are some things that you should keep in mind. One thing is that is critical to your success is whether your reach is sufficiently broad to make the event a success. If you are hosting an offline event, you obviously need to get enough people to attend that event. The chances are very good that you are connected with more than enough people to invite to the event. It isn’t a matter of merely inviting hundreds and hundreds of people. It is more a matter of getting the people with whom you are connected online to start spreading the word (or creating a buzz) about your event. There are several important steps that you should take in order to host a successful event.
Choose a format and an event topic
This is first and foremost. You need to lay the groundwork before you can actually make anything happen. You need to decide what sort of event you want to host and you should ask yourself exactly what you hope to accomplish by hosting this event. If you don’t have a great deal of experience hosting event, you may want to start on a small scale and work your way up to something larger and more complicated. If you start on a smaller scale, you will most likely have fewer details to attend to and the cost will probably be less as well. Considering that it is a networking event that you will be hosting, it is completely reasonable for you to expect the attendees to pay for their own food and drink if you are holding the event in a place where that is an option.
Choose a venue and get the best deal possible
It isn’t always easy to come up with the most fitting venue for your event. In certain situations, the people who work in that particular venue may come up with a price that you feel is not reasonable for what you are doing. Just stick to what you want and make sure that you have other options in case the first one doesn’t work out. Over time, you can build up a database with all sorts of valuable information that you can use as you become more experienced with hosting events.
Create your event on Facebook
Once you have the other pieces in place (that were discussed above), you should create your event on Facebook. This is the time for you to start promoting your event so that when the time comes, you will have the attendees and the success that you want for the event. To create an event on Facebook, you can go to the events application and choose “Create Event.” You will find simple, step-by-step instructions on how to accomplish this. This is an excellent tool, although one challenging thing is that the event notification (and updates) will be sent to the recipients’ “updates” tab instead of their regular Facebook inbox. As long as they are aware of it and know where to look, there won’t be any issue. After you have created the event, you will be able to upload an image and to choose which specific features you wish to have included in your event. This will be attractive to others.
Inform your fans
Now that you have created the event on Facebook, you need to promote the event. The first thing that you should do is to send an update to inform people about the upcoming event. You can target your update to your recipients based on their geographic location or several other possible pieces of information. Status updates for your event are very important and very effective so make sure that you take full advantage of them.
Once you have invited people, it is time to ensure that they don’t forget about your event. Friendly reminders help people to remember and more often than not they will appreciate the reminders. People nowadays are busier than ever and your event may not always be the only thing on their minds. Get them as excited as possible and make sure that they share that excitement with other people whom they value.
At this point, you have done everything possible to let people know about your event. The only thing left to do is to host the event and to make sure that you and your attendees get the most out of it that you can. The more successful your event is, the more people will remember you and your business and they will want to continue to interact with you regularly.
