The connections that you make need to carry you and strategizing is essential for success.

The mystique of social networking

When it comes to networking for business, it seems as though there are generally two different schools of thought. People either love it or hate it. The people who love to network go along and are extremely successful at establishing new relationships and strengthening and maintaining already-existing relationships that they can take to the next level. On the other hand, people who hate to network (or, at the very least, consider it a painful chore), it is important for them to understand that there are several ways to approach networking and that many of those approaches are far less difficult (or painful) than they think. In fact, they may very well start to enjoy networking in spite of themselves.

The positive points of networking

Networking allows you to constantly expand your scope of valuable connections. The more valuable connections you have, the more relationships you will form with others and the more relationships you form, the better your chances of increasing your sales and becoming even more successful than you are presently. Social networking is dependent on successful relationships and there is no other way to gain the trust and credibility in the eyes of the other people without relating to each other on an emotional level as one human being to another. Networking should never be about going to a face-to-face meeting with a stack of business cards that you proceed to hand out and then just leave the meeting. Your right to hand out your business cards must be earned after you have established a connection with the other person. At that point, the other person needs to ask you for your card. You should be very careful about passing it to them too quickly. If you approach it without the emotional connection, that will most likely be the last conversation that you ever have with that person because you are not building a foundation to the relationship. Successful networking depends on a couple of simple principles:

The ability to see things from the other person’s perspective.

Using the WIIFM (What’s In It For Me?) philosophy. In other words, your only concern in that situation is figuring out a way to solve the other person’s problems. It should never be about how wonderful you and your business are.

There a a few steps that you should take if you want your networking to truly pay off on an ongoing basis.

The day after your networking event: You should examine your outlook calendar for the last several months and identify a handful of people with whom you have spent the most time. You need to ask yourself if those relationships really work for you and your business.

The week after your networking event: You should connect two people from the event who don’t know each other yet (of course, that is if you feel that their knowing each other would be mutually beneficial). After you have done that, you should think of a business associate with whom you would like to connect and ask one (or both) of those people to make an introduction for you.

The month after your networking event: Think about a connection that you have with another business associate that you feel is not as strong as you would like it to be and make a gesture (such as forwarding some valuable content to them, for example). That gesture will probably have the effect of strengthening the bond that you have with that person and you will both be on your way to sharing a valuable and sustaining relationship.

Conclusion

Networking is a critical part of your marketing strategy and it is important that you get into the habit of interacting with other people effectively. It is an incredibly powerful tool because it enables you to broaden your sphere of influence. Relationships are always at the heart of your success. The sooner you stop regarding networking as a chore and start to view it as an important (and even pleasant) part of your overall strategy that will be extremely instrumental in your business’s success, the sooner you will be able to enjoy your accomplishments. Now is the time to take the opportunities that are at your fingertips. Your possibilities are limitless.

We are pleased to provide you with the insightful comments contained herein. Your clients are no longer willing to accept anything less than what they want when it comes to doing business with you and your company. They want what they want and they want it now.

The age of instant gratification is now upon us. Social media has given us a tremendous volume of information at our fingertips. There is absolutely no waiting when it comes to people getting the answers that they are seeking. The intelligent businesses have an understanding of the idea that social media will dramatically improve their business’s success and they are making tremendous efforts to leverage social media in the most innovative and effective ways possible.

Customers are not generally interested in communicating negative feedback about businesses and their brands unless they have a really sound reason for doing so. From the business owner’s perspective, it is a really intelligent thing to treat your clients in the best possible way. Obviously, you don’t want them to be one-time clients but rather you want them to be loyal clients to your business and you that means that you want them to return to you over and over again for many years to come. Additionally, you want them to believe in your brand and in what you are doing so much that they will want to sing your praises and the praises of your business to other people whom they know and trust.

There are several ways in which to turn your online clients into loyal advocates for your business.

Act quickly

When you hear from one of your online clients regarding an issue that requires support from you, the client expects and extremely quick response. Quick means really quick (10 minutes) or pretty quick (within an hour maximum). If you don’t address the support issue quickly, you will be doing the reputation of your business damage that you may not be able to undo. On the other hand, if you act quickly, you will be building loyalty among your clients and the only type of feedback that you will receive from them will be positive feedback. You never want to give them a reason to say anything negative.

Always be consistent

It is critical that your clients know that they can count on you and your business to be consistent and to always be there for them no matter what they need or want. If you give them one answer one time and another answer another time, they will be confused. On your mission to proving your trustworthiness and credibility, the consistency will be a huge contributing factor. They need to be able to rely on the fact that you will give them the same answer (or at least the same approach) every time they interact with you.

Let them see you

Transparency and visibility are extremely important elements in your relationships with your clients. When it comes to doing business online, the transparency factor is more important than ever. Your clients need to know that they can trust you and they will never trust you if they think that you are hiding something from them. Each time that you post content, you are interacting with them and building your relationship and making it stronger and deeper. Be a part of the discussion but don’t monopolize the discussion. It is important that you are regarded as an important person in that context but that you are also regarded as one of many important parts of it.

Make sure that everything is in order

Because of the nature of doing business online and the number of social media channels with which you will be involved for your business, it is critical to your success that you are as organized as possible. If you are not organized and your social media interactions are chaotic, people will be able to sense that and will not react favorably. If you are not sure about how to get organized, you should do some research online and find out how other people have done it successfully. There is nothing wrong with mimic other people when it comes to organizational skills as long as what they are doing makes sense for your business.

Interact on a human level

The success of social media lies with the human factor. Social media is successful because people share relationships and relationships can only flourish because of the fact that the emotional connection is sustained. People always react to what touches them emotionally. If they can’t relate, they won’t react. It is as simple as that. The more you interact with people, the more they will get to know you and the more they will like you. Hopefully, that will eventually end with their liking you so much that they will want to buy what you are selling.

Conclusion

Your social media interactions for business are evolving on a regular basis. The relationships that you share with others are constantly evolving. It is very important that you have strategically positioned your business to cultivate those advocates. If your clients have wonderfully positive experiences, they will absolutely want to tell others about it. No relationship stays the same over time. It either deepens or it disappears. You will be able to tell which ones are working and which ones are not working and you will decide upon those relationships one at a time as to whether you should continue to pursue them or let them go.

We are pleased to provide you with the insightful comments contained herein. It’s the hottest social networking site to hit the Internet in a while. People with common interests get together through the online images that they select. It can be very effective for business also.

People can create clusters of images that they can share with other people. The clusters are called pinboards and they can allow other people to have them as well, as long as those other people are Pinterest members. However, you must be warned that Pinterest is addictive!

There are many different reasons why Pinterest is so appealing. One of the reasons is that it is an aesthetic and wonderful escape from real life. The feeling that you will get (consistently) is that you will feel good. You can capture that concept and use it to market your brand with potentially overwhelming results. However, it is very important to remember that behind all of the buzz about Pinterest, it has the potential to be an extraordinarily effective marketing tool for your business. Pinterest is a great way to heighten brand awareness, generate discussions, and eventually, sell more products and services. There are several different approaches that you can take when it comes to using Pinterest as a marketing tool for your business.

The Pinterest members are at various skill and knowledge levels and it is important to customize your use of the tool to your skill level.

Pinterest beginners

If you are just beginning to use Pinterest, you should lay the groundwork for your marketing strategy in the following manner:

Your profile: Make sure that you include your business’s name on your Pinterest profile. You can use your business’s name as your username or you can customize your profile name to include your business’s name after you have already established the profile.

Describe your business: You should be sure to include some content on your profile that says who you are and what you stand for. You should express your interests in the “About” section. If you place it there, it will appear right underneath your photograph. That will make it very easy for other people to find you and your business.

Link your Pinterest profile to other social media channels: You should link your account with your Facebook and Twitter accounts. In fact, when you are first accepted as a Pinterest member, you will be asked if you want to do that.

Your website’s URL: It is very important that you add the URL of your website to your Pinterest profile. It is another sure way that people will be able to connect with you.

Continuing to work it: Once you have been accepted as a member and set up your profile, it is critical that you continue to spend time building your clusters so that other people can benefit from them. You should be consistent in your efforts (just as you are with using the other social media channels). It is more effective to work it steadily for your business than to do it infrequently in large quantities. As with any social networking site, you are building relationships with other people and consistency, credibility, and trustworthiness are all critical to your success when it comes to connecting with others.

Go the distance: After you have pinned an image, you should make sure to include a caption. It is very important that you make the effort to do more than just the minimum. After all, your objective is to promote discussions with other people and your captions will certainly help you to do that.

Include other people: With Pinterest, you can include other people in your image clusters (in the form of contributors). The more people you engage, the more interesting and effective your use of Pinterest for business will be.

Tell you story: It is essential for you to tell your story and the story of your business. People will be touched by your story on an emotional level and will act accordingly because you have stirred up their feelings. Emotion is at the heart of all meaningful relationships.

Be sincere and genuine: Even though you will be using Pinterest for your business, you are still using it as a human being. It is very important for you to show people who you really are. They will appreciate it and they will know the difference if you don’t do that.

Position yourself as a subject matter expert: One of your most important objectives is for you to be regarded as the subject matter expert. You want to be on the top of everyone’s mind when it comes to people needing your particular products and/or services. The way that you accomplish that is by continuing to prove that you have vast knowledge and expertise and that you are able to help them solve their problems.

Conclusion

Pinterest has gained tremendous popularity recently and seems to be stronger than ever at this point. It will only get stronger. It has many benefits that you can leverage for your business. The unique approach that is taken to bring people together seems to be extraordinarily effective and the combination of powerful images that touch people coupled with meaningful conversations is having an incredible effect on people wanting to connect. One of those is that it can increase your website traffic by a great deal. There are so many advantages that it will be well worth your time and effort to get involved with it. The stronger and more diverse your marketing strategy is, the more successful your business will ultimately be.

We are pleased to provide you with the insightful comments contained herein. No related posts.

You have a web presence and you need it to allow others to find you. That means that you need to optimize your presence with keywords and phrases and you need to share (and syndicate) large amounts of content.

With the challenge of optimizing your online content effectively, you are also going to be faced with the fact that you may encounter more obstacles in the way of your success as well. One thing that is for certain is that you need to recognize the importance of both search engine optimization and the level of social interaction for your business. It is very important to examine your online offerings and how they relate to the searches that other people perform in order to find you. First of all, you will have a couple of goals that need to be met right away:

You need to get your offerings to rank higher on the search engines

You need to get your website to rank higher on the search engines

There is no question that the number of people connecting and interacting through social media channels has increased tremendously. This means the number of unique visitors as well as return visitors. The analytics (any analytics program that you choose to use) will tell you the same thing. Searches on social media channels and searches for particular individuals are two distinct areas where there is continued and steady growth. They make up the majority of the traffic that is generated. Outside of that, specific brands are also becoming a stronger and stronger source of traffic. These sources are causing a very high volume of traffic to be driven to Twitter, Facebook, and other websites. More and more people are checking out numerous products and services online all of the time.

Getting your pages to have higher rankings

It is important to understand that the more valuable information you share, the more other people will pay attention to you and your offerings and the more they pay attention, the more they will eventually be inclined to buy from you. Clearly, your position in your website as a result of someone searching for you is at the top; however, you also want to increase your rankings when it comes to the search engines. Of course, there are measures that you can take in order to make this happen.

Put a link to your homepage: When it comes to the way that search engines identify information, having a link in your content that leads back to your homepage is taken seriously. Remember, the placement of your links is important. You don’t want to seem as though you are being shamelessly self-promoting but at the same time, you need to provide a viable connection to your business. The last thing that you want to do is to miss golden opportunities for business.

Put your brand names in your content: This is an excellent idea when it comes to search engines. You should include information on your company and the names of your products and services. You want to make sure that you get the maximum benefit out of your content that will lead to the success of your business.

Get people to “Like” your offerings: The search engines notice “Likes” that you get from other people. In fact, they like them as much as they like links. It is fairly easy to get people to “Like” what you are sharing and it will definitely benefit your business. If you consistently post valuable and educational content, people will be willing to express their appreciation in that way.

Sharing user-friendly tools

Your goal is to get people to interact with you and to continue to share their thoughts and feelings about your business offerings. With that in mind, it is important to make it as simple as possible for other people to be able to interact with you. If the tools that you use to allow them to do that are easy, they will be far more inclined to jump in. They will come to you if it is fun and easy. One of your options is to offer social interaction plugins on your website so that with a click of the button, they will be connected to you.

Conclusion

Social media and search capabilities go hand in hand. It is critical that you think about them as synergistic. They are far more effective for your business together than each one is by itself. People need a way to find you so that they can start to build a relationship with you. If you are not able to think in that way, you are doing your business and yourself a disservice. Always keep best practices at the top of your mind and use them consistently and let them be your driver when it comes to how you do business.

We are pleased to provide you with the insightful comments contained herein. You are working all of them consistently and regularly. Individually, they take a long time to manage. However, if you use Hootsuite, you just push one button.

There are so many social media channels that are of value for your business and at times, it is very difficult to choose just a handful that you feel will benefit your business the most and will result in the most heightened success. After all, there are only so many hours in any given day. It is very important to remember that if you set up a profile on a given social media website, it isn’t enough (and it wouldn’t really be considered a proper presence) to merely have your profile sitting there. You need to actively work at consistently providing fresh content and interacting with your online connections. The more interactions you have, the healthier your social media portfolio will be in general.

Tools to help

There are several online tools that can help you to keep your social media channels organized and that allow you to do a relatively painless amount of work in order to keep everything running smoothly. One of the most effective tools is Hootsuite. Hootsuite will enable you to maintain all of your social media channels at once, such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Foursquare, etc. With Hootsuite, you don’t need to go to each individual social media channel and log in separately. You can push a single button and your updates, messages, etc, will go to all of your channels at the same time. Hootsuite also allows you to manage multiple campaigns, identify and cultivate your target audience, and effectively send messages of importance to others. Additionally, you can view all of your channels at once and interact with your online connections simultaneously. Your updates will show up on the dashboard. With very few exceptions, you will be able to log on to all of your social media channels at once. Hootsuite is an incredible tool for managing the majority of your social media needs.

Customizing Hootsuite

Hootsuite also has customizing capabilities so that you are able to have control over who sees which parts of your content. It is at your discretion. If you are generally in the habit of posting the same content to all (or most) of your social media channels, you can send it to the channels with a mere push of the button. If you are posting blog articles (which are automatically created directly from an RSS feed), they can be sent all at once. It is also easy to automate the posting schedule. You can schedule postings ahead of time and the content will be sent on whichever date and time you have indicated. This especially works well if you are not available to send the content out at a particular time (perhaps you are on vacation or involved with some other activity that does not allow you to be sitting in front of your computer).

Monitoring your content

Hootsuite enables you to monitor your brand and to keep a close eye on how everything is going. Your online connections can also receive notification of and access to your content without having access to any of your passwords. It is important to know that you are not alone when it comes to being met with resistance. On the other hand, making the effort to get the point across will be well worth it.

One thing that is for certain is that social media for business is here to stay. In most cases, the use of social media is no longer regarded as something fun to play with. It is no longer just about what you had for breakfast and where you are going on Saturday evening. It is an accepted and extremely effective tool that helps business owners to bring their businesses to the next level of success. Your first order of business is to get buy-in from the people with whom you work. They not only need to understand the importance and effectiveness of social media for business but they also need to understand how important it is to have the appropriate balance of traditional business dealings and social media activities. Each one is important in its own way.

Social media is there to be leveraged

It is important to drive the point home that social media for business is not a fly-by-night tool that does not need to be taken seriously. It has been proven over and over that it has a huge impact on business success. It is critical that businesses approach their social media strategies proactively rather than reactively when it comes getting the most out of using the available online tools to gain additional success. There should be no obstacles (or barriers) in the way when it comes to incorporating social media into the overall business strategy. Business people need to not only understand the value that social media can have for the business but should also jump on the social media bandwagon for sake of their business.

Positive support

It is extremely important, when it comes to social media buy-in, to have positive reinforcement for the entire social media marketing strategy. Businesses should encourage their staff to develop expertise in the social media realm and they should be rewarded for making a positive contribution to the business. Business people need to truly understand that they will be hurting their business if they fail to see the value that social media will have for their business’s long-term success.

Social media as an important business building block

A business’s social media activities serve as part of the solid foundation that holds the business in place. The business owner should regard social media as a communication platform that is powerful and effective and the business owner should be 100% committed to taking that social media foundation and establishing it as one of the main pillars that holds up the business.

Conclusion

Social media is critical to the success of your business. However, it will be a powerful and effective tool only if everyone involved is on the same page and there is a respect for its value and its contribution to the business overall.

We are pleased to provide you with the insightful comments contained herein. No related posts.

Many people have been involved with social media for a while now. However, there are others who are just beginning to use it and to understand its amazing potential to help them achieve extreme success professionally and personally.

Of course, your perspective will be very different if you already have a lot of experience with social media than if you don’t have a lot of knowledge about what you can do with it and how much it can help you to become a raging success. If you are a person who got involved with social media a while ago, you can see that the social media of today and all of the tools and tricks that you can use for your business is much more sophisticated than it ever was before.

As a newcomer to social media, there are several basic principles that you should keep in mind and that will undoubtedly serve you very well along the road to business success through social media. Of course, you need to pick a beginning point and work from there.

Choose to follow exciting people: Everyone, especially when you are just starting out in a particular discipline, needs someone with more knowledge and experience, from whom they can learn. You need to identify a person who has knowledge in an area within social media and build a relationship with that person so that they can impart their knowledge to you. A wonderful and extremely effective way to begin to gain that knowledge is by asking questions. You should always keep in mind that you will return the favor (in some way) at some point in the future.

Be who you are: Social media interaction is a social activity. Other people are interested in who you are as a person and what you believe in a stand for. You should always be willing and able to jump into the discussions and be an important part of the interactions. You need to show other people who you truly are. You will see that positive results will come your way.

Show modesty: If you are a newcomer to social media, that means that you are trying to carve a place for yourself within the social media communities of your choosing. Even if you feel that you have a great deal of knowledge and expertise on a given topic, it is wise not to show it in the beginning. People may resent you if you do and before you can be at a comfortable place when it comes to sharing your knowledge, you need to establish relationships with people that have a solid foundation that won’t be damaged by ego.

Choose your niche: Before you begin any interactions with people on various social media channels, you need to choose the social media channels (and communities) that will serve you the most effectively. You need to make sure to have a social media strategy in place before you do anything else and part of that strategy means that you need to identify your target audience and your particular niche.

Stay on the good side of other people: Your first objective when it comes to social media interaction is to figure out how you can help other people. Always remember that your driving principle should be WIIFM (What’s In It for Me?). In other words, it can’t ever be about how wonderful and exciting you and your business are. It must always be about what you can do to solve the other person’s problems. If you can manage to do that, your relationships will prove to be invaluable.

Metrics are not the be all and end all: Admittedly, the numbers are extremely important when it comes to social media. However, they are not everything. If you have 5,000 followers and you only interact with 20 of them, what good is the number to you? It is better (and more sensible) to go for quality over quantity. Also, remember that your social media connections are not set in stone. If you find that certain individuals are not working out, it is perfectly appropriate for you to eliminate them and replace them with other people with whom you have a better and more productive connection. When it comes to your interactions, remember that you should always strive to offer the highest-quality content, which will give value to the other people.

Always be fair: If you share someone else’s content, make sure that you always give attribution to that person. That is what you would want other people to do and it is right and fair for you to do the same thing.

Follow others in the way they follow you: That is the right thing to do. Your relationships cannot be one sided or else they are not true relationships.

Interact for the appropriate amount of time: It is very easy to become addicted to social media interactions; however, it is important that you don’t give up your life for it. Having a life balance is healthy and it is necessary. It will also make your social media interactions more effective and more successful.

Conclusion

This is a very exciting time to be getting involved with social media. You need to make sure that you really understand the dynamics social media entails and work accordingly. You have the benefit of a great number of effective and exciting tools that were not available in the past and that will only help you to have a more successful and exciting business. You should take advantage of all that social media has to offer and continue to grow and learn along the way.

We are pleased to provide you with the insightful comments contained herein. People are starting to notice and more and more leads are available to you. You know that you have to convert those leads to prospects and sales.

The reason that your leads are increasing is that you are heightening your online exposure and reputation through your web presence and your social media efforts. As was always the case (and will be until the end of time), it is all well and good to get leads and it is another thing entirely to convert those leads to paying clients eventually. The big question is what you do with those leads. It is imperative that you look at your strategy for converting leads and figure out if it is as appropriate and effective now as it was when you initially developed the strategy. There are many different ways in which you can make the most out of your increased number of leads and convert a great percentage (if not all) of them to clients.

Respond quickly: If you can manage to respond to a lead within a few minutes (perhaps 5), you will be increasing your chances of converting that lead. Being that prompt with the way in which you reach out to people makes all of the difference because it says that they are important to you and that you are making them your top priority. Your numbers will show extremely positive results. If you don’t get there first, one of your competitors will.

Be there for them: No matter when your lead contacts you (weekends, holidays, etc), you should always respond quickly and make them understand that you are available to them always. If you don’t do that, you potentially will be a lot of opportunities.

Consistency is the name of the game: It is critical to your business that you work consistently and reliably. People need to be able to count on you and to know that you will be where they can reach you and interact with you as much as they need to.

Timing is everything: When you are dealing with converting leads, the timing is the most critical factor of all. Always get there before anyone else does. That will give you the best chance at establishing a relationship with your leads and getting them to trust you and find you credible so that you can share a relationship that is built on mutual respect and one that gives benefits to both sides.

Ultimately, lead conversion is what you need to happen in order for your business to succeed. That is the clear indication that all of the hard work that you have done up to that point has paid off. It is one of the many analytics that you use to know that you are being successful. It isn’t enough just to make sales. Lead conversion is an extremely important step that must occur in your process that has the sale at the very end. If you track your conversion rate, you are able to identify if you have gaps in your strategy and then you can amend your strategy so that it is even more successful. You can hone your techniques based on that knowledge.

Conclusion

The more leads who come to you (in whichever way they do come), the more you have to adjust your strategy to accommodate the number. Your approach, in general, will most likely not change all that much; however, there will be differences when your business starts to grow. If you don’t grow along with the business, you won’t achieve the level of success that you should and can.

We are pleased to provide you with the insightful comments contained herein. Until you start interacting with other people, you may feel isolated. Your social media activities don’t only involve you.

Even though you may have a feeling of isolation, that couldn’t be further from the truth. When you first establish your web presence, nobody has any idea that you are there. That is where social media comes into play in a big way. What you need to do is write content on topics in your niche or industry and post and syndicate the content to all of the appropriate and relevant groups that you can think of.

Building trust and credibility

When you are first establishing your presence, you are building your reputation and you are working toward the goal of getting people to find you trustworthy and credible. Of course, it is very important that the quality of your content is high and that what you are sharing with other people is compelling and exciting. Another important thing to consider is the frequency and consistency of your postings. If you post at least once or twice a week, people will start to notice and will be consistent in reading content with your name on it. Beyond merely reading your content, people will also begin to make comments and ask questions based on what you are sharing. You will start to have stimulating and valuable conversations and the more discussions you have with people, the more interactions will be generated. As a business person with a new web presence, there are several different things that you can do to help you to establish relationships with other people online.

Using links: It is clear that you can’t remain in isolation as a business owner for any length of time. You obviously need other people to help you to prosper. You need to interact with other people and you need to be given the opportunity to show them what you can do and what you can offer them. You need to be as proactive as possible in establishing the relationships that will help your business and in working on really building those relationships once they are established. The links that you use are your connection with other people. They are the bridges between isolation and civilization. The links that you use will help get you and your business noticed. The more noticed you are, the higher your potential rankings on the search engines will be.

Patience and persistence: You need to work hard at establishing a good reputation. Once you do, people will be eager to connect with you and to interact and will continue to be hungry for what you have to offer them. It is important to remember that it takes time to establish solid relationships (online and in person). It won’t happen overnight but it will happen if you keep at it and you are consistent in your efforts. Three to six months is certainly not an unusual amount of time when it comes to seeing your social media efforts starting to pay off.

Embracing connections through social media: When it comes to human beings and social media, social media actually enables people to connect with people with whom they would not connect in person. Many people have relationships with others that they don’t really work on. They don’t pick up the telephone to call those people and they don’t make appointments to meet those people. They have, essentially, broken the connection. Social media, on the other hand, can help people to reconnect with other people because it requires very little effort. They can connect through Twitter, for example, and it will take no more than a few seconds (remember that Twitter has a 140-character maximum per Tweet). The social media channels enable people to easily connect with other people and before they know it, their relationships are getting back to what they once were.

Conclusion

Contrary to what some people think, social media helps to eliminate isolation. If people have relationships with others that are not strong and are really of no benefit to either side, it has absolutely nothing to do with social media. It has everything to do with the fact that the human beings are the ones who are choosing the relationships to be what they are. It is very easy to connect with people through social media and to foster positive and productive relationships that are mutually beneficial. It doesn’t take a long time to type a message and everybody can spare a few seconds to reach out to another person. The small effort and investment of time is well worth it because you get so much more in return.

We are pleased to provide you with the insightful comments contained herein. However, it is important to build your online communities so that you get the most benefit.

Many people recognize the importance of effective online communities; however, many more people don’t truly get how important having the appropriate people as part of your online communities is for your professional success. Online communities and the interactions that occur among people are, even at this point in time, often viewed in a nebulous or mysterious manner. People are very often not willing to embrace what they don’t understand.

One important thing to remember when it comes to building online communities successfully is that the community should never rely on just one person for its leadership and direction. A good way to figure out if there is too much dependency on one person is by paying attention to the total number of postings for that community. If it seems like a large percentage of them were made by one person, it is time to distribute the wealth a little more evenly. It is important for someone to take the reins when the community is first being established; however, there should be some balance established. It is acceptable (and understandable) in the beginning for more postings to be made by that one individual. However, as time goes by, other people should step up and contribute.

How to get started

When you are first establishing an online community, there are several things that you need to put in place right from the start.

Identify your goals and objectives: You will have a much easier time accomplishing what you want to accomplish if you identify it first. You need to make sure that you have the tools to accomplish your goals and you also need to figure out your target market. Once you have figured out who the members of your target audience are, you need to figure out what is important to them, who the heavy hitters within the niche are, the specific types of technology they use, and what motivates them.

Strategic positioning: Online communities are successful because people are willing to actively engage. The online community will not be successful it it isn’t centrally located within your social media strategy. It is important that you make the information that you want to impart to the other people in your communities available only through your online communities. If you make it easy for your online connections to find the information in other ways, your online community connection will not hold the same value. It is important that you position your community in such as way that your audience has to recognize the value of the information and is willing to make some effort in order to obtain that information.

Your reason for being: It is critical that your communities have a clear and important reason for being in existence. You need to give the other people in your communities a real reason to engage with the other members (including you) in the various communities.

Technology is not the entire answer: Using the correct (and most effective) tools is only half of why y our online community will be a success. The other half of it is your strategy and management of the communities themselves. Your investment is time and consistency.
